Artist Statement

From a very young age, I’ve always been drawn to the concept of storytelling through art. Like most artists, I was the kid sitting in the corner drawing comics during recess. I was also the kid drawing monsters, ghosts, and anything I read about in WeirdNJ. This all being said, it felt natural for me to make my thesis film about the most blood-sucking, evil creature to exist: A lawyer. And that lawyer just also happens to be a mothman. I became best friends with ToonBoom Harmony this past year to make this happen, and we’re going to be friends much longer, because there is infinitely more I would love to add to this story. These characters are near and dear to my heart, for multiple reasons. The chief of which being that, it is cathartic to craft a story about mundane conflicts between characters who would historically be put through the wringer. All my characters are monsters, and all my characters are trans. To create a sympathetic, light-hearted story between them is something I needed in this current landscape. Needless to say, this is a story that will be built upon, because working on this has been the biggest joy of my year. This is a story dedicated to non-consequential spats, the friends we made along the way, and of course, all my not-so-monsterous “monsters”.
