Biography

Kait Buser is an artist and animator from Southampton, New Jersey. They have a special interest in nostalgic and retro-styled art and animation, referencing the stylized and saturated works of art that have influenced their work today. Kait has experience in pre-production and post-production processes in the realms of film and animation. They are currently a freelance cartoonist who will gladly illustrate your character, pet, or yourself, but they hope to one day break into the world of film. Whether it be live action or animated, Kait hopes to inspire someone the same way they have been inspired as a young kid artist.

Statement

Art and illustration have always been my primary tools for communication. All works of art have a message they attempt to convey to their viewers, one way or another, and I grew up surrounded by art. I have always consumed great animated stories since I was old enough to even retain the content I consumed. Animation as a medium has always been the underdog in the world of traditional film enthusiasts, forever being classified as content for young children without significant meaning. But if it wasn’t for the media that has been classified for kids’ consumption only, I wouldn’t be half the artist that I am today.

I have always enjoyed the retro-style animation that I and many others within my earlier generation have grown up with. While I enjoy brightly saturated colors within my works, I have also been able to capture darker and grittier vibes within specific projects and characters, as I feel it’s important to convey a wide plethora of emotions and tones within my work.

As I have gotten older, there has been more love and attention towards animated films, but as time progresses, so too does technology. We are now in a day in age where many corporations are quick to replace human artists with soulless AI generations that many try to pawn off as art. While it’s convenient to have a process done that makes your workflow output quicker, it’s not worth it when you’re sacrificing the love and passion for the craft, and you’re receiving half the quality of the work in return.

As I continue my art and animation journey beyond post-grad, I hope to continue my hand-drawn works, whether I get into illustration, animation, or traditional cinema. Even if it takes a while to get the job I desire, I will continue to inspire myself as well as those around me with endless creativity and whimsy that we all need in today’s global climate.
